Spring sock knitting is here in NZ

Hello lovely makers,

the weather here in Wellington continues to disappoint, but on a positive note I can sit and knit with less guilt! Recently I dyed up some self-striping yarn, which I sold out of. The colourway is called "Hyacinth Bucket", and looks very pretty in a gobstopper ball....

I had one 'second' ball, which I wasn't one hundred percent happy with and kept for myself to knit up. Even though one of the colours is not entirely how I wanted it to be, it's still pretty in my eyes. This is a pattern by annalenaknitter (on IG), and it's available from her Etsy shop "Anna Knitter Yarns". She also has a fab podcast on YouTube titled "Anna Knitter".

If you're one of the lovely customers who bought a gobstopper ball of "Hyacinth Bucket" from our online store, it will knit up something like this...

Anna's patterns are very well written, and she links to YouTube tutorials which show how she knits her socks, step by step. I love the basket-weave-like patterning of her "God's Promise sock knitting pattern". As you can see it works well in self-striping yarns. It would also look lovely in tonal-coloured yarns, and yarns that have micro-stripes. Included in the digital download are measurement tables so you can knit up perfectly fitting socks, according to your size and gender. The pattern is written for DPN knitters (as this is the method that Anna uses). However, it's easily adaptable for magic-loop and 9" circular sock knitters. This is the second sock pattern that I've bought from Anna. My first was the "Helgen" sock pattern. Those who play the Skyrim computer game will understand the reference! The "Helgen" sock pattern mimicks dragon scales, and it's an easily remembered pattern repeat. The "God's Promise" sock pattern-repeat wasn't as easily remembered, and I had to record which row I was on, but that is no big issue to me. The lovely texture of the sock is well-worth it! So if you're looking for some sock knitting inspiration, I hope I have helped, and that you give one of Anna's patterns a try!

NEW Opal sock yarn has landed!

While we are on the subject of socks, we now stock new Opal yarn from the Beauty 2 (Bergwelten) and Wasserwelten ranges. We have added more Uni 4 ply to our socks, and we now have Uni in 6 ply, too! Uni is perfect for knitting contrasting cuffs, heels and toes for your socks, as well as many other knitted items (beanies, jerseys, fingerless mitts etc.)

Other yarns recently added to our stock....

Other yarns in stock include more colours of Lopi "Plotulopi" and "Lettlopi", as well as Scheepjes "Whirl", "Whirlette" and the NEW 100% recycled "Terrazzo" yarn. We have more "Organicon" cotton yarn, and "Woolly Whirl".

Scheepjes Woolly Whirl is the warmer, winter-proof alternative to Scheepjes Whirl, making it perfect for creating items for the colder months! This extra-large yarn cake, made from a 70% Cotton and 30% Wool blend, features the same gently changing long-gradient characteristic of all Whirl yarns and is ideal for creating large, cosy and breathable shawls and scarves with a beautiful drape.

We now stock KnitPro blocking accessories, including blocking pins and mats, Aqua sock blockers, and the KnitPro yarn winder.

I'd better get back to starting on my second sock! Happy making everyone! x
